How to convert an image to STL
- Drop your image on the tool above: a photo, logo, drawing or sketch in JPG, PNG or WebP.
- Choose Relief to turn it into a raised 3D model, or Lithophane for a photo that shows when lit from behind.
- Set the size and height, check the 3D preview and download your STL. Everything runs in your browser.
What can you make from an image?
- Signs and plaques from a logo or text image
- Stamps and embossers (use Invert to sink the design instead of raising it)
- Wall art and coasters from drawings and patterns
- Photo reliefs where bright areas stand out
- Lithophanes and lamp shades, also available in our lithophane maker
How the image becomes 3D
Each pixel's brightness sets its height. In Relief mode white is high and black is low. If your image has a transparent background, the tool ignores the colors and raises only the visible shape, which is what you want for logos. Relief models are exported lying flat so they print without supports.
Tips for a clean result
- Use high-contrast images; soft gradients become gentle slopes
- For logos, a transparent PNG or pure black on white gives the sharpest edges
- Keep the minimum thickness at 0.6 mm or more so the base is strong
- Turn on Smooth noise for photos with grain or JPEG artifacts
Frequently asked questions
Is this image to STL converter free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no watermark. Your image is processed on your device and never uploaded.
Can it turn a photo into a full 3D model?
No tool can rebuild the hidden sides of an object from one photo. This converter creates a relief or lithophane: a flat or curved model whose surface follows the picture.
Which file types work?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP. iPhone HEIC photos need converting to JPG first.
How do I make the design sink into the surface?
Tick Invert. Bright areas become low and dark areas high, which is the right setup for stamps.
Can I edit the STL afterwards?
Yes. Open it in Blender, Tinkercad or Fusion. Need another format? Use the STL converter.
